Perched above Squam Lake in the heart of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, Van Horn Estate has welcomed guests for more than a century with timeless elegance, breathtaking scenery, and a sense of quiet retreat. Thoughtfully designed for relaxation and connection, the estate welcomes guests ages 12 and above.


The story of the estate began in 1904, when Isaac Van Horn and his wife Clara visited Holderness and became captivated by the beauty of the region. Inspired by the sweeping views of the White Mountains, towering pines, and the serenity of Squam Lake, Isaac purchased the land on Shepard Hill with a vision of creating a grand English manor made for entertaining. Skilled artisans and craftsmen from around the world contributed to the creation of the estate, resulting in a remarkable mansion that blended refined European influence with the natural beauty of New England. Completed in 1907, the Manor quickly became known for hosting elegant gatherings and becoming recognized as a true showplace of the region.


Over the decades, the property evolved through several unique chapters. Since the late 1950s, the property has operated as a beloved inn and retreat under various names, continuing its tradition of hospitality and escape. Today, Van Horn Estate blends its rich history with modern luxury, offering elegant accommodations, elevated dining, spa experiences, and beautifully restored gathering spaces across ten scenic acres overlooking Squam Lake. Whether visiting for a romantic getaway, celebration, or peaceful New England escape, guests are invited to experience the timeless beauty, serenity, and character that have defined the estate for generations.


Terms and Conditions

  • Cancellation Policy

    In the event of a cancellation, your deposit, less a $40 processing fee, will be returned provided we are notified in advance. This notice must be 30 days before scheduled arrival for high season, and 14 days before scheduled arrival for low season. If cancelled less than 30 days or 14 days respectively, you are responsible for the entire stay. The full daily rate will be charged if guests do not arrive, arrive after the reserved date, or depart before the final date of a guaranteed reservation. 

  • Deposit Policy

    A deposit of 50% of the room charges, including tax, is required at the time of booking. The remaining 50% balance of room charges including tax will be charged upon check-in.


    One night stay and package reservations require a 100% deposit at time of booking.

    Check-out time 11:00 AM Late checkout will depend on availability of room, please call ahead for availability.


    Rates subject to change. Most of our rooms only accommodate 2 people but we do have a few rooms that can accommodate more than 2 people. Our rates quoted include accommodations for 2 people, there is an additional charge for more than 2 people in any room. Extra adult accommodations available at charge of $75, an extra child accommodation available at charge of $75. Minimum age of guests is 12 years of age. 


    The Manor on Golden Pond is a non-smoking environment. Smoking is allowed outside. 


    Pet accommodations are not available but we can gladly suggest a local kennel for your furry friends.
